Mike Engle Vibratrio
Mike Engle's music reflects a vibrant gumbo of influences, based on his prodigious roots in New Orleans, blended with his passionate involvement in the jazz culture of Montreal, and seasoned by his recent relocation to New York. Engle began his musical career on piano at the prestigious New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA), and majored in jazz vibraphone performance at McGill University in Canada. He has studied with Stefon Harris, Arthur Lipner, Tom Beckham, Andre White, and François Stevenson, among others, over the course of his musical career. Affectionately dubbed “Vibratuoso” by his ardent fans early in his career, the tag has stuck among his rapidly growing fan base. Engle is a prolific composer and engaging emcee/performer; he is an avid fan of scores of fine musicians, too numerous to list.
Fellow vibraphonist Stefon Harris has said, "Mike's got skills!" In addition to his freelance work, Mike leads The Mike Engle Vibratrio, which focuses on delivering a mixture of updated jazz standards and original compositions. This group has been characterized as a “Bill Evans-esque trio, featuring a spontaneous and interactive threesome, along with a lively four-mallet technique reminiscent of Gary Burton.” Mike has recently found great inspiration and a strong following in The Mike Engle Quintet. This dynamic ensemble brings together five extremely talented musicians, whose fine performances of lively and satisfying original compositions has been described as “having all the ingredients for great success.” One reviewer described the combo as being “on the fast track to stardom, a vibrant group that must be heard, and not overlooked!”
