Ranger and The Re-Arrangers
The Band
Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers” evoke the spirit of a Paris cafe or a Gypsy campsite with their unique twist on “gypsy jazz.” Intriguing melodies played vigorously on stringed-instruments give them an acoustic, driving sound; their hand drummer adds a world rhythm beat. The band features two outstanding jazz improvisers, Ranger on violin and Dave Stewart on mandolin. The band's repertoire includes swing standards, traditional Gypsy melodies, the music of Django & Grappelli, Brazilian choros, and unique originals. Sophisticated but spontaneous, energetic but tranquil. Toes tap, heads bob, hips wiggle -- you can't stop the fun!
The band will release a new CD in 2009, entitled “Django's Tiger”, which will include a mix of Django Reinhardt compositions, Gypsy swing standards, and Ranger's Gypsy-tinged originals. Several of the songs from “Django's Tiger” are currently posted on the band's website.
Gypsy Jazz
“Gypsy jazz” was born in Paris in the 1930's when Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli blended their own musical legacies with the new American art form of jazz. Soon their recordings with the “Quintette du Hot Club de France” brought them international fame. Their technique, especially the use of acoustic stringed instruments instead of horns, remains a vibrant branch of jazz, known today around the world as “Gypsy jazz.”
Band History
Ranger and Michael have performed as a swing jazz duo since 2000. Their debut CD was recorded in 2006 and since then Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers” have shared their love of Gypsy jazz at over 80 festivals, dances, restaurants, art openings, weddings and other special events. Their debut CD continues to earn acclaim -- and a new CD will be released in early 2009.

Ranger Sciacca “is a twenty year-old gypsy jazz fiddle phenom. and he's hitting the big time with both feet running. The young man has arrived.”

Ranger Sciacca, of course, was superb with his hot licks, slides and creative, syncopated leads on violin.
