The Swinging Genies, led by Northwest vocalist, Katy Bourne, is comprised of some Seattle’s A-list jazz musicians, all of whom have years of experience performing in a variety of settings. Their sound is tight, professional and infectious. Katy Bourne is a rising star on the Seattle jazz scene and has appeared at  numerous night spots, festivals and events  throughout the region. Her performance resume includes Tutta Bella, Serafina, Tula’s, the Edmonds Arts Festival, the Anacortes Arts Festival, the Seattle Tennis Club, the Blue Water Bistro, the Bite of Seattle and the Montlake Community Music Festival to name just a few. In her role as bandleader, Katy is warm, courteous and easy to work with. Her goal is for the music to fit the feel and ambiance of the event, whether it is quiet background music or a full stage performance. She takes pride not only in the high-quality and professionalism of her band but also in their reputation for being friendly, fun-loving and good-humored. In the words of a recent client:

Katy Bourne has spent a lot of her life on stage-she competed in horse shows and speech tournaments as a kid growing up in Oklahoma, played saxophone in the high school marching band and co-founded an improvisational theater group that ultimately brought her to Seattle. But the day she sang her first jazz tune, she knew she'd hit her mark.

"I listened to jazz for years, but it was singing jazz that threw me over the moon. Although the standards were written decades ago, the feel of the songs still resonates deeply today. When a tune is really cooking, there is a synergy between the players that is euphoric and profound. If I can be part of even one second of that, then that's as close to God as it gets for me."

Katy, a good-humored poet, writer and mom of three, has appeared at Seattle nightspots like Serafina, Tula's and Tutta Bella, where she sings regularly with Ron Weinstein and Geoff Harper. She has performed with some of Seattle's finest musicians including Darin Clendenin, Geoffrey Harper, Clipper Anderson, Mark Ivester, Steve Korn and Ron Weinstein. Her musical influences run the spectrum and include Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell and Greta Matassa to name a few.
